Good News, Bad News

I lied. There is no good news. Remember how I told you I was tired all the time? This is a condition that has been escalating for about six months now. It has gotten to the point that I have been napping for several hours a day on weekends. On my dog walks, I can't walk as far in an hour because I am exhausted. This past month, it has felt like someone is sitting on my chest all the time....and I feel like I am straining in everything I do. And I have a constant headache and blurry vision. This weekend, dizzy spells.

I got a call from my doctor this morning....not her nurse, but her. Never a good sign. And when she asked if I was sure I had two functioning kidneys, I knew I was in a bit of trouble. Turns out my kidneys are not working well, and that I am swimming in my own, well...I prefer not to think about it. The lack of energy explains my extreme sugar cravings. As hypertension may be to blame, that would explain the tea cravings, as it acts as a diuretic. And I have been depleting potassium and not replacing it. So, Blah.

I guess there is a bit of good news. We are onto the problem. Although unsure of why my kids aren't up to par, at least we are going to discover why, and hopefully do something about it. In the meantime, I am off the Ferriss Wheel. I am going to start the Dash Diet, which is recommended by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, as well as numerous others. (See attached link).

More bad news; I have gained 2 pounds. Good news; I don't really care. So I am off to a party, a pity party. Table for one, please.

Crappy, Barb. Crappy. You can get on top of it though. I have a history of high blood pressure in my family which is why I started bootcamp last year. Basically my doctor threatened to put me on medication if I didn't have an improved reading the next time I came back (within 2 - 3 months). Taking a page out of my dad's book, I started exercising (for real exercising) and watching caffeine intake not changing diet so much since we were pretty healthy anyway. When I went back, my BP was normal. My dad has been on high blood pressure meds in the past but was also able to come off through exercise and diet. So chin up ... no need to rush off to that pity party just yet. Bx
