All of this weight talk has made me think of Oprah, the Queen of Up and Down Dress Sizes. I have watched her show possibly 10 times in my life, but have seen enough clips to know how challenged she is with chronic food consumption. It makes me wonder why so many people listen to her when she comes out with yet another revelation as to why she is fat; how she will get rid of the fat; and who we should shell out $$$ to.....so that we can re-gain weight, like her, a season or two later. I recall watching a season opener; whereby she had clearly re-gained weight and apologized to the audience for her umpteenth regression into fatdom; only to follow that up a few shows later, with some self-help guru by her side; re-canting her apology and chastising everyone around her for making her feel bad about herself. But why does she always command that she has found the final answer to all of our weight problems? (I think anyone who portents to know all the answers is either an egomaniac (Tim Ferriss) or delusional (Oprah)). The reasons why we gain weight are as varied as the individual. Over eating (defined here as simply eating unhealthy or larger amounts of food then we need, leading to weight gain), can be cultural, social, emotional or habitual. There is not a blanket solution for any of these causes. It is unfortunate that it may take us as long to discover how to undo our habits as it did to develope them.
I just wanna lose 20 pounds (or so) and keep it off. I assume, that after losing it with Mr. Ferriss' game plan.....I will have to keep some version of this diet going not to regain weight. Do I think I have found the solution to my weight issues? I'll let you know, on next season's opener :)
